REVIEW – Trying to work in a room without enough light can be both annoying and physically bad for your eyes when you have to squint to read. The obvious solution is to turn on a light. Today I want to show you the Yeslamp Evo. It’s a lamp that you can attach to your desktop to provide light and extra functionality. Let’s check it out.

Design and features

The Yeslamp Evo has two parts. There’s the main lamp that includes touch buttons for power, brightness up/down, a USB charging port so that you can use the lamp to charge other devices, and there are two LCD displays. More about the displays later on in this review.

The back of the lamp has more control buttons for setting the clock. There is also a battery compartment that houses a CR2032 coin cell battery which saves the clock settings if there’s a power outage. There is also a power port on this side of the lamp.

The lamp section has three segments that are connected with hinges that allow you to almost infinitely customize the lamp head so that you can shine it exactly where you want. The lamp is made of an aluminum allow which keeps it very lightweight but sturdy.

The Yeslamp Evo is designed to clamp to the edge of your desk. The clamp is included with the lamp and it can accommodate surfaces up to 3.5 inches (8.8cm) thick. I do wish that the Yeslamp Evo offered a desk base option in addition to the clamp for people who don’t want to or are unable to clamp it to the edge of a desk. For example, I can use the clamp with my craft room desk, but it will not work with the desk in my office which does not have any exposed side or back edges.

Here we see the lamp attached to the edge of the desk in my craft room. The main section of the Yeslamp EVO is 16.3 inches (41.5cm) tall, while the next section is 7.7 inches (19.5cm)  long, and the lamp head itself is 11.8 inches (30cm) long.

The lamp has 6 axes of rotation. Here are just a few examples. The head can rotate as shown above.

You can also use the hinges to customize the angle of the lamp head.

And another…

And yet another example of how you might want to position the lamp head.

As mentioned at the beginning of the review, the Yeslamp Evo features two LCD displays. The top/larger display has the current time in large bright numbers, with the date below it. A second smaller display shows the current temperature and humidity level. Note that you can display the time in either 12hr or 24hr format and you can display the temperature in Fahrenheit or Celsius. There’s even an alarm clock feature should you choose to use it.

The up and down buttons below the displays are used to adjust the lamp’s brightness level. In the image above, the lamp is set at the brightness level.

And here it is at the lowest level.

The Yeslamp EVO can also cycle between 5 color temperatures by holding down the power button for a few seconds, it will cycle between temps. Note that this was not mentioned anywhere in the manual, but I did find this chart on their webpage.

I tried taking pictures of each temperature level, but the images all looked the same, so I decided not to include them. In real life, you can tell a difference between the warmer 2700K vs the colder 5300K color temperature levels.

Again, here’s the lamp set at the lowest brightness level.

Here the Yeslamp Evo is set at the brightest level.

One of the main selling points of the Yeslamp Evo lamp is that it has natural spectrum light which is important if you’re using it for arts and crafts as it doesn’t distort colors. For example, have you ever had trouble seeing the difference between black and navy blue? This light will help you see the difference more easily because the lamp’s light output is closer to natural daylight.

What I like

  • Natural spectrum light output
  • Very adjustable
  • Multi-functional (clock, humidity level)

What I’d change

  • I wish there was a lamp base option for people who don’t want to clamp it to the edge of a desk
  • The manual does not explain how to switch between color temperatures

Final thoughts

If you’re looking for a multi-functional desk lamp that features natural spectrum light, I have found that the Yeslamp Evo is a very nice lamp. It not only provides bright light that doesn’t distort colors, but it also has a built-in clock, thermometer, humidity level display, and a USB charging feature. It’s pretty much the Swiss Army knife of lamps. I just wish there was a desk base for it too for people who don’t want to clamp it to a desk. But that’s a small gripe for such a nice lamp.

  2. Now that IS a cool light! I can see using this at my workbench. I liked your video review. I wonder how small it can be made when not being used. Can you fold it in half/flat at the middle joint? I couldn’t any pictures of this online.
